Bridle bit
This part of a horse’s harness is made of iron. Iron was used for making many objects used in people’s homes and for making farming equipment and weapons. Iron has to be ‘melted’ out of crushed stones and then shaped (forged) by a blacksmith into shape.

Quernstone
These stones were specially shaped using iron tools, so that the top stone could turn round on the lower stone to grind wheat into flour. Very hard stone was chosen so that the quern would last a long time.
